The university offers its students 100 degree programs in 27 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate specialties, through several schools and colleges, which include: the Newark College of Engineering, the New Jersey School of Architecture and Design, Albert Dorman Honors College and the College of Computing Sciences.
NJIT’s athletic teams are known as the NJIT Highlanders, who compete in the NCAA Division I, in 9 sports for men and 8 for women, including in the Atlantic Soccer Conference, in men’s soccer, also competing in baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball and cheerleading. Although, the Highlanders have experienced victory, in many of their sports, over the years, they captured national attention when the men’s basketball team has set the record of the most winless team in D-I history in the 2008 season with a losing streak of 49 games.

Pawlikowski - Major General (USAF), Commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory and former Deputy Director of the National Reconnaissance Office, Gerard J. Foschini - prominent telecommunications engineer at Bell Labs; Inventor of Bell Laboratories Layered Space-Time (BLAST), and John J. Mooney - co-inventor of the three-way catalytic converter and co-winner of National Medal of Technology, among others.
